Setting up an ISP AccountAn ISP (Internet Service Provider) is a company which provides you access to the internet. Beyond providing access to the internet, some providers also include e-mail service and/or disk space for storage or the creation of web pages. There are many options when looking for an ISP. For instance, cable companies like Comcast, phone companies like Qwest, and television satelite companies like DirectTV all offer some form of ISP service, as does AOL, AT&T, and others. Residents in and around Tucson Estates also have the option of a wi-fi connection to the internet through TEPOA and TRIAD.
Depending on the ISP you select, you will be asked to select a user name and password. If the ISP provides e-mail service, this will probably also serve as your e-mail name. Your email name will then be something like myname123@myISP.com, where myname123 is the name you select. The name you want may already be in use, so you will have to select something else that is unique. Some people like to use something that describes activities they enjoy like golfnow. The @ is always in your E-mail address just before the name that identifies your E-mail or ISP provider. Most providers use a .com at the end of your address. However, there are other endings such as .net (next most common), .org (for organizations), and .edu (for educational). Passwords should be at least 8 characters long and include alpha and numeric characters. Sometimes passwords are case sensitive. Thus 8AB96ampt is not the same as 8Ab96ampt. You normally have to enter the password twice when registering an account, and it will be checked to verify both entries are identical. Be sure you remember your password. You will need it to log on to your service. The wi-fi service provided at Tucson Estates does not include e-mail service. It is recommended you use one of the free web-based e-mail services such as Google or Yahoo.
